Hi, I’m ansley watson.

I became a mother in 2017 and over the course of that pregnancy and postpartum became obsessed with birth podcasts, midwives, doula stories, and all things birth and early childhood. I started chatting with friends who needed support and education on childbirth and other related topics very regularly, and started getting asked, “Are you a doula?” pretty often… My husband and I moved to Texas from California in 2019 and in 2021 I FINALLY dove into birth work by becoming a placenta encapsulator. I then immediately trained my adventurous husband, so he could take on the lion’s share of the work of encapsulating my fourth baby’s placenta (Opal Birth’s first unofficial client, hah!)... fast forward to today and I’m out here in South Arlington/Mansfield building a life with my husband for our little ones, full of the love of Jesus, my people, our community, leaning in to the holistic space when it comes to our home and family care, and when I’m not Opal Birth I am Mommy and homeschool educator. We’re in the early years and it’s so fascinating building their education from the ground up!

During my first pregnancy I knew I would need support postpartum, but I had no idea how much. I knew I should “take it easy”, but had no concept of the modern pull to “be productive” in the weeks after my first birth, or of the deep longing for rest and slowness I would intuitively crave. I wanted meals brought to us from friends and family, but didn’t know what I really needed to nourish me postpartum. I wanted to encapsulate my placenta, but I didn’t know I needed that and more in order to support my hormones, emotions, anxiety, and all the rest that comes with postpartum days. Out of what our family has experienced in the depths (and heights!) of each of our postpartum seasons I have learned to prepare ahead of time, ask for help, streamline processes, and allow others to serve me and our family.

Opal Birth was forged through the mistakes, lessons, and successes I’ve had, and my prayer is that I could serve you in your postpartum and impart some wisdom and wins I’ve learned through the years.
